In July of 2004, California Daily News urged an inquiry of judges. Perhaps the below censure of Judge James Aaron was Explains WHY the Inquiry was urged

Alameda County's Judge Donald Squires, refused to allow Debra Schmidt, extradicted from Texas, to put forth a defense for moving to Texas. In fact, on the record, Judge Squires said he "eviscerated her defense," and then suggested she might want to make a deal with the more rabid, Robert Hutchins. Even after the Third District Court told Squires, Hutchins and the Attorney General's office to release Schmidt, they hung on to Schmidt for another month.

And when it comes to child support, the State of Michigan gave up in 2001. Michigan says, Hey, we just Told you...It Ain't Working"
